The “it’s my photography style” trick

Once you start looking around for photographers you’ll notice shooting “styles”. I’ve been managing photographers for 15 years and as the owner of a successful agency I’ve noticed something: most photographers call their shortcomings and mistakes a “style”.

For example, someone might say: “I’m only a candid-photographer (in reality they’re too scared to get in the action, be a good director, or create moments). Someone else might say: “I’m a light-and-airy photographer”, meaning their photos are all overly bright and the details disappear including skies and clouds etc. (a sign of someone that hasn’t mastered photography). I can continue with the list, but you get the point. After I train these photographers correctly, they no longer have a particular “style”. A good photographer will give you fun photos, artistic photos, candids, traditional stuff, etc. etc. all in one gallery.
