The “Free Engagement Shoot”

There is this silly myth out there in the internet written by people with nothing else to do suggesting that engagement shoots are important... or that “it is a good way to get to know your photographer before the wedding”. Do you need to know the best surgeon in town on a personal level in order to have the best surgery? Don’t get me wrong, I love getting to know my couples... I’m a pretty social person, but it simply does not affect how well I do my work. What couples are not aware of is that what a person needs to know (in technical terms and in experience) for an engagement shoot is about 5% compared to what is needed to know to shoot a wedding properly!. Do you know how many photographers I know that do well in an engagement shoot but do horrible in a wedding? An engagement shoot does not really tell how your wedding photos will come out. Properly qualify a photographer (you can find out how in the free LIVE webinar we deliver), don’t worry about an engagement shoot. Don’t fall for companies that offer a free engagement shoot. It does not make up for good quality of work. Actually, there is a reason why they offer them for free. It doesn’t add the perceived value to your package. Get the photographer you really want, and if you really want an engagement shoot, add it separately if it is offered. It isn’t a requirement for beautiful wedding photos, two different things!
